July Employment Statistics

More Tech, Less Finance in the 95th Straight Month of Job Gains

Reported by Barbara Byrne Denham

The U.S. economy added 157,000 jobs in July following an upwardly revised 248,000 jobs in June. Thus, July’s gains mark a slight deceleration in the momentum that had been underway over the prior two months, but growth remains healthy nevertheless. With 1.5 million added jobs in 2018, the economy is well ahead of the 1.29 million jobs added in the first seven months of 2017.
